I like the idea of using "the" when describing a quog, (e.g. "great tune . . . until the quog reared its ugly head") in much the same way as early keyboard players would refer to "the wolf" to describe the quogish intervals thrown up by certain keys before the adoption of equal temperament.
btw my in-line spell checker was making a mess of my post by highlighting "quog" and its derivatives . . . so I added it to my dictionary - one down, Chambers and OED to follow.

The other advantage of the definite article is that it emphasises the distinctiveness of quog as a description. My understanding is that in any given tune, at any given moment there are an almost infinite number of "wrong" or "bum" notes (through either bad choices or poor execution) but only ONE quog.
